I am a social worker, specializing in Gerontology (the study of aging). I graduated from Western Illinois University with a BSW in Social Work and an MS in Gerontology. In my free-time I enjoy fixing up my yard, gardening, writing and spending time with my family. Getting in touch with and being close to nature is very important to me. My Husband, Mike had West Nile Virus in 2002, it nearly killed him before it left him paralyzed. Watching and helping him make a come-back from being 98 pounds and near-death to the man he has become has been inspirational. I am currently working on a book about his (and our family's) experience with overcoming the effects of this devastating disease. It has been a 6-year struggle against recurrent pneumonias and effects of the illness. He has since regained his strength as well as losing the ventilator, feeding tubes and hoyer lifts. He has come a long, long way.
